Learning Objectives

At the end of this training, participants will have an:

  • Increased understanding of person-centered care.
  • Increased understanding of terms related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and aging.
  • Increased ability to relate to LGBT elders.
  • Increased ability to honor sexual expression and resident and participant rights.
  • Increased ability to honor preferences and rights for individuals with a dementia related disorder.

Why this is important

It is a right of all residents and participants that they be treated with courtesy, respect, and consideration as a person of worth, sensitivity, and dignity. This is also one of the hallmarks of person-centered care. This training will help us to understand the unique challenges and needs of a growing diverse ALF and ADCC population and honor the rights and wishes of all individuals.
