Bio

Catherine MacDonald is a gerontologist based in Richmond who serves as the Communications Manager for VCU Gerontology and the Director for the Greater Richmond Age Wave.

Her work at VCU Gerontology includes communications efforts and student engagement. She has helped develop and foster the emerging Aging into Elderhood (AgE) program founded by the department. She also helps coordinate pairing Gerontology students with government, nonprofit and private sector partners.

Catherine’s work leading the Greater Richmond Age Wave focuses on bringing gerontologists, policy makers, advocates, changemakers and other community members together to develop and implement community-driven, evidence-based solutions that make Richmond a great place for all people to grow old. This has included developing policy platforms for the General Assembly, leading programs for older adults, family members, and service providers to learn new health and wellness skills, increase connections to neighbors and services, and increase knowledge, skills and abilities to support older adults.

Catherine serves as editor for The Longevity Project e-magazine.
