Faculty Bio:

Dr. Cotter received his B.A. History from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, his M.A. in Social Sciences (History) from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his Ph.D. in
Health Services Organization and Research from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dr. Cotter teaches in the Department of Gerontology and for the College of Health Professions in the PhD in Health-Related Sciences Program. He has authored or co-authored 25 articles and more than 70 professional presentations. He serves on the editorial board of the American Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease. His current research interests include  the quality of distance learning programs, the use of technology in service delivery, and optimal fitness and nutrition for older adults. 

He has developed programs and services for older persons at the local, regional, and state levels. He has served as Director for Programs at the Virginia Department for the Aging and as Assistant Director at the Area Agency on Aging in Southeastern Virginia.
