Aging Studies for Undergraduates: Accelerated Master's and Undergraduate Certificate

Older adults are the fastest-growing segment of the world's population, creating a high need for professionals trained in aging and later life. In five years, you can earn your Bachelor's degree and Master of Science in Gerontology. This program is currently available in partnership with the following undergraduate bachelor programs: Health Services; Health, Physical Education and Exercise Science; Sociology and Philosophy. You can also choose to earn an Undergraduate Certificate in Aging Studies in only nine credits.

Making an Impact as a VCU Gerontologist: Older Adults Experiencing Homelessness

As the older adult population rises, systemic ageism, poverty and policy gaps will continue contributing to the rising rates of homelessness among older adults—and highlight the need for innovative responses that promote housing stability in later life. Córdoba, Spain: A Case Study in Population Aging

Open to all graduate students! This interdisciplinary course will draw on Spain’s National Strategy for Aging and its alignment with key global initiatives to support the well-being of older adults in Córdoba and its surrounding areas.
The Global Education Office and the School of Social Work are pleased to offer this unique program focused on aging in Spain. In 2024, 30% of the population of Spain was aged 60+ and 21% was aged 65+. Sizeable growth in this population, especially for the sector aged 85+, is projected well into the current century. Spain has a well-developed National Strategy for Ageing that closely aligns with key global initiatives, including the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development, the WHO- and UN- sponsored Decade of Healthy Ageing (2020-2030) and the WHO Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities.
